Meet Anthony Kendrick
Registered Counsellor | Australian Counselling Association
I didn't take a traditional path to becoming a counsellor, and that's exactly what gives me a unique perspective.
My Journey
I spent 10 years working in IT as a computer programmer before joining the NSW Police Force, where I served for 9 years in General Duties and as a Detective in Sydney. I attended some of life's most difficult situations, including traumatic scenes and suicides that most people will never encounter.
I left policing because I realised I wanted to help people earlier in their journey, before they reached the crisis points I was responding to.
What My Experience Brings
to Your Session
My police experience gave me invaluable insight into:
How trauma really works and shows up in people's lives
The importance of creating genuine safety and trust
What it means to hold space for people in their darkest moments
How to stay grounded when emotions run high
I've also walked my own path of healing. I know what it's like to feel lost and directionless, to go through the motions of life without knowing who I really was, or believing my needs mattered.
That personal journey, combined with my professional training and experience, means I bring both understanding and practical tools to help you move forward in the way you need.
My Approach
I believe each person is the expert in their own life.
You bring your experience and self-knowledge; I bring my knowledge of how change happens. Together, we work as a team to create the change you need.
Ninety percent of people are affected by trauma in some way, whether it's obvious 'Big T' trauma from specific events, or the quieter 'little t' trauma of not feeling seen, heard, or valued growing up. The accumulation of 'little ts' over a lifetime can affect us just as deeply as a single traumatic event, and they deserve the same attention and care.
Tools in My Toolbox
My approach is trauma-informed and incorporates:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help shift unhelpful thought patterns
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to build psychological flexibility
Parts work to understand and integrate different parts of yourself
Person Centred Therapy to create a safe, non-judgmental space
Gottman Method for couples working to rebuild connection
But more than any specific method, what I offer is a space where you don't have to have it all figured out, where your struggles are valid, and where asking for help isn't weakness, it's strength.

Ready to Connect?
I believe it's important to connect and see if we're the right fit before any commitment—no pressure, just a conversation.
